Treasury adds new digital currency mandate for Bank of England

The Treasury is adding the rule to a finance bill heading for the House of Lords this September. While its main job remains keeping the economy stable, the central bank must now publish a yearly report on its innovation progress. It follows Labour's decision last March to scrap the Payment Systems Regulator and move its staff to the Financial Conduct Authority by 2027.
