A 16-year-old boy had to be rescued from a British Columbia mountain last week after an AI chatbot called Claude gave him incorrect directions. Bryce Vincent Gowryluk, a keen indoor climber, used Claude to plan a route up Grouse Mountain to Crown Mountain and back. The chatbot's directions led him to a sheer cliff face, the Widowmaker Arete, which requires ropes and specialist climbing gear.
