Small-Boat Migrants Face 20-Year Wait to Settle in UK

© House of Commons

Migrants who arrive in the UK on small boats will have to wait 20 years before they can apply to settle, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced on Monday. The wait will rise to 30 years for those who do not enter work or study. The government says the change aims to encourage people to come through safe and legal routes instead of crossing the Channel.
