Criminal Record or Poor English to Bar Migrants From UK Settlement

Criminal Record or Poor English to Bar Migrants From UK Settlement

© House of Commons

Under new rules, migrants with a criminal record, unpaid debts, poor English or missing national insurance contributions will be barred from settling in the UK, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told MPs. She said settlement rights, including NHS and education access, must be earned, not automatic. A five-year route will stay open for people earning over £50,000 and those who have contributed in healthcare and education.
