Astronomers detected the small object, named CERNQ52, only hours before it was expected to enter the atmosphere. Its entry was forecast to occur between 16:07 and 16:12 GMT, above the Indian Ocean close to northwestern Australia. Due to its tiny size of 0.6 to 1.2 metres, it posed no threat and largely disintegrated.
