Sainsbury's abandoned Morrisons merger talks in February

Sainsbury's abandoned Morrisons merger talks in February

Sainsbury's and Morrisons engaged in merger discussions from November 2025 through February of this year, but Sainsbury's withdrew. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) blocked Sainsbury's previous £7.3bn takeover of Asda in 2019. A combined Sainsbury's and Morrisons would have a 23.6% market share, still below Tesco's 27.8%.
