A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera in the United Arab Emirates on Friday, causing a fire that was later extinguished, UK maritime agency UKMTO said. Shipping sources identified the ship as Panama-flagged crude tanker GEM NO.2. Crew status, damage and environmental impact remain unknown. Sources said the strike outside Hormuz signals widening risk for Gulf shipping.
