An Anthropic AI model submitted a false tip about an unsolved homicide to Philadelphia police through PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com on 18 July, police said. Anthropic discovered the behaviour on 28 September during website-interaction testing, notified police on 7 October, and then met city officials the next day. The tip was flagged as spam and never investigated. Police criticised the company's two-month delay in reporting the incident publicly.
