Over 2,000 pigeons shot at UK railway stations since January 2025

BBC research indicates that air rifles were used to kill over 2,000 pigeons at UK railway stations and depots in a 16-month period. Professionals carry out the culls at night to stop droppings causing slip hazards or illness, with York Station recording the most birds killed. LNER, a train operator, shot over 800 birds at its stations, with Network Rail killing 600 at others.
