NHS Blood and Transplant admits patient data sent unencrypted via pagers

Sensitive medical details of UK transplant patients, including names and dates of birth, travelled across an unencrypted pager network as a matter of course. Following a BBC investigation, the organisation responsible for coordinating transplants, NHS Blood and Transplant, acknowledged this constituted a data breach. The service is now very sorry, has stopped sending data this way, and reported it to the Information Commissioner.
