New battery trains will bring faster northern journeys from 2034

Twenty-nine new Adessia Stream battery trains will start long-distance mainline journeys in the UK from 2034. Built in Derby, the fleet will boost capacity by 30% and cut emissions, even on non-electrified routes. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the new trains would mean more reliable services and thousands of British jobs.
