Researchers in Boston examined 2,362 deceased former NFL players from 2008 to 2023, identifying CTE, a brain disease, in 93.5% of almost 400 donated brains. Because donors are more likely to have had symptoms, the team adjusted for that bias to reach its estimate for all players. Under 1% of the general population's brain samples exhibit CTE.
