More UK parents plan to spend retirement savings instead of leaving inheritance
The trend of “spending the kids’ inheritance”, known as “skiing”, is challenging traditional notions of passing on wealth. As many as one in seven UK parents (15%) now intend to focus on spending their wealth rather than bequeathing it. Pension provider Standard Life suggests the disappearance of guaranteed final-salary pensions is a key driver for this change.
