Millions of plastic pellets spill into River Tyne

Thousands of volunteers have spent weeks cleaning beaches after millions of plastic pellets spilled into the River Tyne on 19 July. Campaigners say the government isn't treating the "disaster" with enough urgency, accusing it of a "direct lack of action". The Environment Agency reported its early and active participation, which included increasing monitoring and supporting local authorities.
