Hundreds of Brits are dying from TB mistaken for a smoker's cough
Tuberculosis diagnoses in England have reached a 10-year peak, with 574 individuals receiving a diagnosis of the disease posthumously from 2010 to 2020. The bacterial infection, which usually affects the lungs, can be mistaken for other conditions like a smoker's cough. Early symptoms such as a cough lasting over three weeks and night sweats are easily missed, making early diagnosis vital.
