Government setting up £1bn fund to put pension cash into British start-ups

The UK Scale-up Fund will target growing life sciences and tech companies that need money to hire more staff. Major retirement providers including Nest and Railpen are backing the project, with extra financial support coming from the British Business Bank. Over the last 30 years, the proportion of UK shares held by domestic pension funds has dropped below 5%.
