The UK government has scrapped plans for a new M5 junction south of Tewkesbury that could have cost up to £930 million. Gloucestershire County Council wanted the junction to unlock about 25,000 homes and employment land. Leader Lisa Spivey called the decision extremely short-sighted, saying ministers cannot demand major housing growth while refusing roads to support it. Tewkesbury council said the need for investment remains.
