Free NHS morning-after pill scheme tops 300,000 doses
Nearly 305,000 doses of the emergency contraceptive pill were dispensed free at English pharmacies from October 2025 to March 2026. NHS England said the scheme lets women collect the pill from pharmacists without a GP or clinic appointment, nearly doubling usage year on year. Women's health director Dr Sue Mann said free access lets women get emergency contraception quickly when they need it most.
