Finger-Prick Test Offers Early Detection of Type 1 Diabetes in Children
A finger-prick blood test could soon be offered to all UK children to screen for type 1 diabetes. The ELSA study has already checked 17,000 children aged three to 13 and found children like Imogen, age 12, who is now receiving medication to delay the onset of diabetes. Early identification can prevent diabetic ketoacidosis and allow for timely treatment and support for families. The ELSA study needs more families to get involved.
