FIA discusses 2026 F1 engine loophole concerns
At a Jan. 22 FIA engine meeting, manufacturers including Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, Audi and Honda discussed how to measure compression ratios in 2026 engines after rivals raised concerns that Mercedes and Red Bull may exploit a loophole by running higher ratios when hot despite the 16:1 limit measured cold. While experts agreed on a future hot-engine test method, any rule change requires formal approval and likely won’t affect early 2026 races.
