EU Wind and Solar Power Surpass Fossil Fuels in 2025
In 2025, wind and solar became the EU's leading electricity sources, generating 30% of the power, exceeding fossil fuels at 29%. Solar generation grew over 20% for the fourth year, providing 13% of the EU's electricity, surpassing coal and hydroelectric. Renewables overall supplied nearly half (48%) of the EU's electricity last year. While the EU and US increased fossil fuel reliance, China and India saw declines due to clean energy growth outpacing demand.
