EU Ministers Task Commission on Energy Windfall Tax

EU finance ministers tasked the European Commission with exploring taxes on energy companies' windfall profits to ease high prices. Irish Finance Minister Simon Harris said Ecofin gave a mandate to examine such measures, while Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stressed that national governments remain best placed to set taxes. Brussels will offer technical support rather than an immediate bloc-wide levy, after the ministers met in Luxembourg.
