City Bosses Warn Healey Against Higher Bank Taxes

Chief executives of UK Finance, the CBI and other City groups wrote to Chancellor John Healey urging him not to raise bank taxes in the 28 October Budget. They argued banks already face a surcharge and levy beyond normal corporation tax and warned higher burdens could drive capital and jobs abroad without raising more revenue. The Treasury declined to comment on any Budget speculation today.
