EU and India Close to Landmark Trade Agreement
The European Union and India are nearing a historic trade agreement, potentially creating a market of two billion people and accounting for almost a quarter of global GDP. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has referred to it as the “mother of all deals,” giving Europe a first-mover advantage in one of the world's fastest-growing continents. The deal is expected to be signed soon, with both sides aiming for a comprehensive agreement that addresses their respective interests. Talks were re-launched in July 2022 after being abandoned in 2013.
