Energy bills to hit three-year high from October

Ofgem, the energy regulator, is expected to confirm a 4% increase to the price cap for millions of households this week. The rise is mainly due to higher wholesale gas prices, made worse by the Middle East conflict and European heatwaves. A typical household will face an annual bill of about £1,729, the highest since July 2023.
