Greater Manchester Police arrested eight men days after they left jail under the government's early release scheme. About fifty local prisoners were among roughly seven hundred freed on 1 October to ease overcrowding. Five were held for alleged breaches of criminal orders, including a domestic abuse prevention order, and others on suspicion of robbery, drugs and domestic violence. Ministers say tougher licence controls are coming.
