Diabetic nerve damage linked to drivers hitting accelerator instead of brake

New research found that drivers with nerve damage caused by diabetes sometimes pressed the accelerator when they meant to brake. A driving simulator study with 44 licensed drivers showed only those with diabetic peripheral neuropathy made this error. The DVLA already requires drivers to report peripheral neuropathy, which can affect limb function.
