Thousands of patients in England aren't starting cancer treatment within the target 62 days, with performance actually getting worse. One man, Alan, waited nearly five months for lung cancer surgery, by which time his cancer had spread. Experts say government targets are now "impossible to hit" and thousands more will die unnecessarily.
