Chancellor John Healey's Budget sets aside £150 million for 2027-28 to build additional large sites for housing asylum seekers. The money supports the government's plan to end the use of asylum hotels. The Home Office says such sites, which could include former military bases, are managed and self-contained, and that it consults councils and police before using them. Exact locations have not yet been named.
