Possessing or publishing pornography that realistically shows strangulation or suffocation will become a criminal offence in England and Wales from 6 November under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. Possession can bring up to two years in prison and publication up to five years. Anyone holding such images must delete them before then, and online platforms must stop UK users seeing it or face Ofcom fines.
