Britain runs the most overseas-focused military of any European Nato member, according to a new report from the Transition Security Project. The thinktank estimates about 23% of the 2024/25 defence budget, just over £14bn, went on commitments across five continents. With spending set to reach 3.5% of GDP by 2035, it urges ministers to prioritise defending the UK itself over projecting military power far abroad.
