The Financial Conduct Authority says lenders may offer car finance mis-selling compensation early, provided customers get no worse a deal than under its proposed scheme. Barclays has confirmed it will begin making such offers now, with others expected to follow. The scheme faces a legal challenge in February, so most payouts, averaging about £829, are unlikely before late next year. Customers can choose to wait.
