Millions of Private Sector Workers to Get Default Pension for Life

Millions of Private Sector Workers to Get Default Pension for Life

UK Parliament, CC BY 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Around 17 million private sector workers saving into workplace pensions will be offered a default retirement income that lasts for life under new government plans. Pensions minister Torsten Bell said the Guided Retirement scheme would close the gap with public sector pensions, often with inflation protection. Savers will still be free to choose other options, and a consultation on the details runs until 22 December.
