Andy Burnham commits £8.4bn for new nuclear submarines to help create 18,000 jobs

The new prime minister is visiting a Cumbrian shipyard on Thursday to promote his plan for a reindustrialised Britain. Most of the cash is going to the defence company BAE Systems, which just secured a £5.9bn deal to finish the first four Dreadnought vessels. He also confirmed that military spending will rise to 3.5% of the economy by 2035.
