32 firms caused half 2024 CO2 emissions. Aramco leads.
A recent report reveals that 32 fossil fuel companies were responsible for half of the world's carbon dioxide emissions in 2024, a decrease from 36 companies the previous year. State-owned entities comprised 17 of the top 20 emitters, including Saudi Aramco, which alone produced 1.7 billion tonnes of CO2. ExxonMobil was the largest investor-owned polluter, responsible for 610 million tonnes. These emissions data are increasingly used to hold companies accountable for climate action.
