2.4 Million Households Could Have Energy Debts Wiped

Graphic: BriefTea

Up to 2.4 million households struggling with old energy debt could have it written off from next spring under new plans from Ofgem and the government. The scheme targets £2.47 billion of arrears built up during the 2022 to 2024 energy crisis. Pensioners, disability benefit claimants and people on means-tested support can qualify, but customers must agree plans with their suppliers to manage future bills.
