Why is F1 so exclusive?

Formula 1 is a global sport with a limited number of teams, making entry very difficult. The current 10 teams share prize money and influence, so they're reluctant to dilute their share by adding more. New teams also need to prove they can be competitive and financially stable for the long term, which is a huge hurdle.
