Why is drought a problem?

Droughts, like the historic dry spell in France, cause severe water shortages and kill off vegetation. For dairy farmers, this means their cows' usual food source, like mountain grass, disappears. This forces them to find alternative feed, which can be costly and, as seen in the story, conflict with strict rules for protected origin products.
