Why are US agencies involved?

Even though the Ryanair flight was between Greece and Germany, US agencies like the NTSB and FAA are involved because the aircraft was a Boeing. Boeing is an American company, so US regulators have jurisdiction over its aircraft design and manufacturing standards, regardless of where the plane is flying.
