Angel station is built deep underground, 60 metres (197 feet) below street level, making its escalators the longest on the London Underground. This depth is due to its location beneath busy Islington streets and the need to tunnel beneath existing infrastructure. These 200ft escalators are almost 35 years old, and one has been out of service since April.
