Who investigates plane incidents?

When an incident like this happens, aviation authorities launch an investigation. In the UK, it's the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). Their job is to find out what went wrong to prevent similar incidents in the future, not to assign blame. They'll look at everything from pilot actions to maintenance records and air traffic control.
