What is the yellow jersey?

The yellow jersey, or 'maillot jaune', is worn by the leader of the general classification in the Tour de France Femmes (and the men's race). It signifies the rider with the lowest cumulative time across all stages. Demi Vollering taking the yellow jersey means she is currently the fastest overall, with a narrow eight-second lead.
