What is necrotising fasciitis?

Necrotising fasciitis, often called a 'flesh-eating bug', is a rare but severe bacterial infection that spreads quickly and destroys soft tissue, including muscle and fat. In Peter's case, it developed after a spider bite, leading to a four-day coma and multiple operations to remove the infected tissue and save his arm.
