Who were the Neanderthals?

Neanderthals were an ancient human species who lived in Europe and Asia, becoming extinct around 40,000 years ago. They coexisted with early modern humans and shared many similarities, but also had distinct physical features. This study helps us understand their biology better, particularly how their childbirth process might have resembled ours.
