Explained in plain English

What is extra time?

In football, if a match is tied after the usual 90 minutes, two 15-minute halves of 'extra time' are played. The first team to score in extra time, like Ferran Torres for Spain, wins immediately in a 'golden goal' scenario. If still tied, the game goes to a penalty shootout.
