What is an electoral officer?

An electoral officer is responsible for running elections smoothly and fairly. They manage everything from voter registration and polling stations to counting ballots and announcing results. In the Greater Manchester byelection, electoral officers ensured over 2 million eligible voters could cast their vote properly and that the process was transparent.
