Explained in plain English

What is an AVM?

An arteriovenous malformation, or AVM, is a tangle of abnormal blood vessels that connects arteries and veins, bypassing the usual capillaries. In Stu's case, this hidden condition on his brain stem caused a fatal bleed, leading to his collapse at the gym. AVMs are rare and often go undiagnosed until they rupture.
