What is a loan spell?

A loan spell is when a player temporarily moves from their parent club to another team, usually to gain experience and regular playing time. It's common for young players, like Scanlon and Ogunneye last season, to go on loan to lower league clubs to develop their skills before potentially breaking into the first team at their main club.
