How do transfers work?

A transfer is the process of a player moving from one football club to another. It usually involves the buying club agreeing a fee with the selling club, then the player agreeing personal terms and passing a medical examination. Once all these steps are complete, the player signs a long-term contract with their new team, as Enzo Fernandez is set to do with Manchester City.
