What is a global recession?

A global recession is when many major economies around the world shrink at the same time. This means less production, fewer jobs, and less spending. The Rausing family selling off US shares could be a sign they anticipate such a downturn, moving their money to safer havens if they believe the US economy, and potentially others, are heading for trouble.
